Pyrite is a type of mineral found under your foundation concrete or the concrete slab of your garage floor. In fact, it is produced by iron sulphide in crushed stone, which is used as backfill in construction.
GABOLI Excavation
- It swells in the presence of moisture or oxygen, which can cause foundation cracks and the lifting of your concrete slab floors. In the case of a garage, pyrite can swell and push the walls of your foundation to one side.
Don't be fooled: pyrite formation can easily occur a few years after a new build, or even 10 to 20 years later. Depending on the amount of pyrite present, there are numerous consequences, including affecting the structure of your building.
GABOLI Excavation is at your disposal for pyrite detection and rapid intervention!
As you probably already know, an uneven floor surface and cracks in your foundation pose a threat to the structure of your residential or commercial building.
Pyrite swelling causes the cement slab in your basement or garage to raise and deform. Over time, you may recognize multipronged cracks in the concrete in the shape of a star, cross, letter T or letter X. In addition, white powder may appear near the cracks and at the foot of the basement wall.
Whatever the signs, GABOLI Excavation is at your service. Our experts will eliminate pyrite, whether it's in your garage floor or basement walls!
